Duchess in the District

Bonjour,

Just a quick post today before I head back over to the hospital. While sitting with my father-in-law last night I read a passage from Paramahansa Yogananda’s book To Be Victorious in Life and it seemed like a timely passage to read. I share it with you all today to remember to enjoy life as you live it, that there is no specific final destination called “happiness” – but that it is up to us to enjoy and have joy in the moment of each day. Wishing you love and light.

“Our purpose in life is to know the meaning of the universe. . . It [life] seems so real and so permanent, but it will be over with shortly. . . So do not take this life too seriously; look behind this drama to the Author of this dream play.” pg. 53

Duchess Digest

Submitted by on May 28, 2009 - 3:02 am

Bonjour!

Today is Duchess Digest Day over at Single Minded Women. This week’s article is about none other than the lovely Coco Chanel! Is anyone else as excited about the new movie Coco avent Chanel as I am? Well all of the European Duchesses have likely already seen the film but since it still hasn’t released here in the states I am anxiously waiting . . .

Until then, please enjoy a short article on some of the positive aspects of her life, determination and business skills. These are qualities all us ladies can use!

Also, stay tuned because Single Minded has asked me to start writing a relationship column. Why you ask? I honestly don’t know! ha ha. I’m more like a “What-not-to-do!” example, but hey, maybe some of you can learn from my mistakes. I’ve certainly had plenty of experience. . .

So stay tuned for next week! And also, please make sure to sign up for the Duchess W.E.A.L.T.H. Intensive class. It’s going to be a really great (and at $39.95 affordable!) course full of meditation, course lectures, course work, affirmation and daily reminders to define wealth in your own terms – and to speak, read, and live abundance in your daily life.

The class runs for thirty days and starts June 1st – so sign up now!

Some New Duchess Friends . . .

Submitted by on May 27, 2009 - 4:03 am

Bonjour!

I am really excited to share with you all two new blogs full of inspiration, great advice, wisdom and fun. I hope you’ll take a moment to check them out . . .

The first is my friend, and amazing musician, Andree Belle’s new blog (with all the info you need to keep track of her new album release). While music is her art medium, she is in no way limited to just music. This woman is a mighty force of nature, full of grace, love, fierce loyalty and amazing support. You’ve heard me mention my guardian angel friend before – coming over at the drop of a hat whenever I’ve been sick or needed a friend? Well this is my girl! She’s wonderful and I know you’ll love her (and her music) too! Check her out and feel the love: www.andreebelle.wordpress.com/

And second on my list of great female leaders is my Koala Bear’s new blog – www.redefiningthemeaningofwealth.com You have to check out her wonderful ideas on what wealth really means, how we can love and enjoy what we already have and the happiness and joy of our daily lives. I love her inspiration, she has wonderful links and her thoughts and quotes are worth their weight in gold alone! See for yourself what wealth means for you after seeing what Koala has to offer the world in the meaning of wealth.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Submitted by on May 26, 2009 - 11:02 am

Bonjour!

I loved that movie. I thought of it last night when I had the following interaction with my eight year old niece.

Scene: Me, laying on my sister’s comfy guest bed in my pjs and sweatshirt reading Wayne Dyer’s There is a Spiritual Solution for Every Problem. Brookie walks in with her stack of bedtime stories for me to read to her.

Brooke: Aunt Jill – what are you reading?

Me: A book sweetie.

Brooke: What’s it about?

Me: I guess it’s about helping people know how to be happy.

Brooke: Why do people need to read a book on how to be happy?

I love the innocence and joy of little kids. The thought of being in any state other then happiness is totally foreign to my sweet little niece. Sure, she cries and has her feeling hurt from time to time. I know she has sad days too. But happiness is just her natural state and it’s so damn sweet that she wouldn’t understand reading a book about being happy. She just is. Love that.

Later, when I was done reading her stories and had tucked her into bed I gave her a little kiss and said goodnight. When I was walking out of the room she said, “Aunt Jill?”

“Uh, huh.” I paused in the middle of her doorway.

“If you ever need to be happy, you should just think about Nigel.”

(Nigel is this British alter-ego she made up where she talks like a British person and acts snooty. She says Nigel is from Windsor. How she makes all this up at eight, I don’t know but it’s hilarious. Especially since her British accent sounds like Will Ferrell doing a Robert Goulay impression).

It reminded me that being joyful is such a state of innocence and fun we can all tap back into. There’s nothing keeping us from that fun, playful, happy state except our own minds and ego. Try letting your inner child run free today and giggle a lit bit more. Being around Brooke has certainly helped remind me of the simple joys of being a kid, or at least kid-like.

Here’s to your bliss!

Friday Feature

Bonjour!

One of the things I’ve loved the most about being home with my family is having so much time with my niece. She is so cute and fun and imaginative. She was in her room the other night for hours and when she finally let us all in she had inventoried her entire room and set everything up like a store. Each book, shirt, toy, etc. had a price tag and she had made display tables, racks and even her own money for us to use. It was so cute and creative. I love her little mind at work. Then last night when we were reading stories (she likes her auntie – that’s me – yay! to read her her bedtime stories every night) she leaned over after the first story and said, “Aunt Jill, once again you smell really good. You always smell so good and you don’t even try it’s just your natural smell.”

I laughed for about five minutes. She cracks me up with the random stuff she’ll say and the thought that I have a distinctive (yet, apparently natural) Aunt Jill smell made me laugh. She’s so stinking cute.

Something else funny that happened, which I think is incredibly odd and yet a little magical, is that Tuesday when I first arrived in Denver I missed a call from a 907 area code. I thought, “Who is calling me from Alaska?” I have all my Alaskan friends already programmed in the phone so I was curious who this person could be. Well when I checked my voicemail it was a really good friend, who I hadn’t talked to in over a year, inviting me to his wedding reception. Last year he wasn’t even dating anyone, so I was totally surprised. I sort of blew it off thinking that I’d love to go but was not going to be flying to Alaska any time soon. Well after I actually talked to him the next day he told me the reception was actually in Monument. Monument! That’s the teeny tiny town where my mom lives in Colorado! I couldn’t believe it! He promised to call back with directions before Friday so I could attend. As promised, I woke this morning to a text with the name of the location for their wedding reception. And would you believe it is the EXACT same place where my mom was married last summer. This is TOO wierd to me. My long time junior high and high school friend from Anchorage, AK is getting married to a girl from Monument, Colorado and at the same exact place my mom was married last year. Talk about small world! It’s too crazy NOT to go so I am heading to a wedding reception tonight to see some of the Alaskans. How strange!

Finally, I am REALLY, REALLY excited to let you all in on something I’ve been working on for a while now. It’s my first ever coaching series class. Yes, after almost a year of design, study and research I’ve assembled and am offering my first thirty-day Duchess W.E.A.L.T.H. Consciousness Course in June. I will have all the info and the link to sign up for it on Monday. I hope you will join in the intensive program and ask anyone you feel could benefit from it to do the same. I’m really excited to teach it and I think it will prove incredibly valuable not only to myself in being able to share but to you in learning a new mindset and habit of W.E.A.L.T.H.

Until Monday, I hope you enjoy your weekend and remember that, even in times of uncertainty or struggle, there is always a silver lining. We just have to focus on the good we wish to experience in our lives. Whatever your “this” may be, there is always good.
