Bonjour!
Caroline Donahue, founder of Remambulous coaching and another wonderful participant in our upcoming ‘Random Acts of Blogging’ Event put up a post yesterday about the event. Take a second to pop on by and say hi while reading up on Caroline’s post. She’s awesome, you’ll most certainly love her!
Also, if you’re a blogger (or know bloggers) who would like to participate, please email me! We’re taking entries for another few weeks until we close it out and dish out dates, assignments and groups to our participating bloggers. We really, really want you to join us. Wouldn’t it be nice to get a lot of nice things done for people? Really? You never know when your small act of kindness, awareness or consideration will really turn the day around for someone who maybe otherwise wasn’t feeling too hot.
It’s cool to be nice. It’s great to give service in little unexpected ways – and I believe it’s crucial to our development to be aware of people outside ourselves.
long may you reign (and email us to join!) . . .

Kick the Door Down Duchess!

Bonjour -
Another great twitter find! I know, I know but there are some really great people and some amazing content out there in the twitter world. Today I have to share with you all a really cool blogger, known as Scoutie Girl, and her really cool project called ‘Kick the Door Down.’
She’s giving away a free ezine download full of beautiful stories, great graphic design and inspiring content about women who have gone through their own journeys of growth, expansion and sometimes just plain kicking the door down! You’ll remember my link last week to the ‘Owning Pink’ blog post by Lissa Rankin about her ‘Leaps of Faith,’ well this is equally great and made to inspire and motivate.
As Winston Churchill used to say, ‘If you’re going through hell; keep going.”
Or as Duchess likes to say, “If you’re going through hell; go to Scoutie Girl!”
She’ll fix you up straight away with a good ‘ol cup of cheer in its .pdf format!

Bonjour!
One of the great things about Twitter is the instant access to newsfeeds it provides me with that I would otherwise likely not have stumbled upon. One such unlikely find happened last week when I read an article from Esquire online about Christina Hendricks, one of the great actresses from Mad Men. She talks about fifteen things men should know about women; some of them I couldn’t agree more (no tank tops outside in public!) and others I am not as into (I have no affinity toward the word panties – good or bad, I’m indifferent!) but it was a great read either way.
So that’s this week’s column (with of course a link to the original post!).
Enjoy!

Okay, so it's not a list of things for men. But this is what this Mad Woman is lusting after this week.

Bonjour!
It was another full weekend in Los Angeles. Friday night found me crashing out about 9:30pm with Betty for a much needed night of sleep. I know, the glamourous life of a Single Minded Woman in Los Angeles. Really tripping the life fantastic there! I thought it would be hilarious right before bed to YouTube wolf howls for Betty to see if she reacted. Guess what? She did. Guess that else? Karma is a bitch and gave me a dose of my own medicine when Labrador and I were so terrifyingly awoken at 2am by the hoops and hollars of a pack of coyotes just outside the fence having taken down a kill. Not so funny. I guess I learned my lesson to not mess around with the noises of the things that go bump in the night.
We were up bright and early Saturday morning so I could take Betty our in the manner to which she’s accustomed, then get ready and get on the road for an 8am Social Media & Marketing Tech conference all day. Good times. Does this Duchess know how to party or what?! But it was fun and I ran across several great friends and colleagues there, not to mention learned a thing or two, so the sixth day of an early wake-up call was well worth it. Can I let you in on a little secret? One of my favorite things in the world is when people recognize me or just stop referring to me as Jill all around and yell, “Duchess.” The best part about this is that I’m getting used to and am starting to respond! What an awesome thing to have happening.
Marketing event complete, Betty and I took our usual weekend walk up to the Hollywood sign. Yes, I live within a stone’s throw of Lake Hollywood, the Hollywood sign and Lake Hollywood Estates. It’s one of the things I love most about my neighborhood and I plan on taking the Flip Cam out there soon to get some pictures for you all of how beautiful that walk/urban hike really is!
Then, and this is the part that gets really, really good – Saturday night the Aussie and I went to the Turner Classic Movie Film Festival. What for, I hear you wondering? Oh, nothing less than the all time greatest movie that I am madly in love with – Singin in the Rain!!
Yes, the original Singin’ in the Rain on the big screen at the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Highlight of the weekend without a doubt!

A photo from inside the historic Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. That's about my point-of-view too from Saturday night's screening of 'Singin in the Rain.'
I will admit there was a bit of mad panic and a very upset Duchess leading up to the film, but luckily my Aussie and I made it in (in fact we were literally the last two tickets TO make it in!) and it was such a great time. He hadn’t seen it before so it was fun to see it with someone new and shockingly he really liked it. I thought it may border on the nonsensical for him; he’s very intelligent and all the films he talks about seem to be quite gritty, serious and intellectual. Singin in the Rain is kind of the happy, go-lucky, dumb blonde of the film world *hmmm, like watcher – like movie?
In fact when we left he said, ‘I feel like I understand you in a whole new way after watching that.’
“Oh dear,” I thought to myself.
‘It was perfect. Very sweet, very fun, dancing, singing, laughter – it was everything a movie should be about.’
I’ll take it.
It was a good weekend.

Random Acts of Blogging Kindness- Join Us!!!

Bonjour!!
On a recent surf through the internet – I stumbled across a great idea organized by some fellow bloggers called ‘Blog It Forward.’ I wanted to join, but they had already maxed out at 300 participants, and back in February, so what can I say? A day late and a dollar short?!
Not hardly!!
Life is what we create, so I got inspired and decided to organize a ‘Blog it Forward’ inspired event of my own – with a twist. And here’s what I’m thinking . . . .
1) Wouldn’t it be nice if I met some new great bloggers (I love all of you I currently know – you’re beyond FABULOUS!)
2) Wouldn’t it be great to share the love and readership around for all you fans of Duchess and intro you to some great new people too?
3) Wouldn’t it be nice if hope and love were the message of the day – and so our theme for this Duchess blogging experiment was to do something nice?
And an idea was born . . .
SO HERE IS THE SCOOP . . .
If you are a) female, b) a blogger, and c) looking to seriously participate in my Duchess event . . . then email me NOW!
jill@theduchessguide.com
Yep, that’s me.
And what I want to do is get a massive group of us together, organize us into groups of 10, hand out the group assignments at the end of the month, and assign each group a day.
What you will do is, on your group’s assigned day:
1) Everyone will use the same blog post title, ‘Random Acts of Blogging’
2) On your assigned day you will commit one senseless act of kindness for a total stranger – then blog about it.
3) At the end of your blog post you will reference the other people in your group by linking to their blogs in your post (so that your readers can see other bloggers random acts of kindness for the day)
4) That’s it . . .
I think it’s a really fun way to cross-pollinate readers, inspire each other and others and give back to a pretty fucking awesome world we live in . . . imagine if we get enough people participating (and I’m spreading out the date assignments for each group so it will go on for several weeks) how many senseless acts of kindness we can share!!
It will cost you nothing, I’m having a badge developed for your blog – for everyone who commits to participation, and there is a MAX of $10 for your random act of kindness, although money is not even necessary. It can be buying someone’s coffee in line behind you, carrying groceries, helping another woman with a baby while in line – it is almost better if it’s free and there are NO LIMITS to the great, free, charitable things you can do. The only caveat is that it has to be a stranger and you have to share with everyone. Maybe you’ll let someone cut in traffic (if you live in LA this is a HUGE act of kindness!) or share some of your talents with a stranger. Honestly, I’m not here to tell you what – in fact this is why this is so EXCITING to me is I can’t wait to hear all your what’s – but I think it’s a great idea. . . .
So again, this is truly open to all female bloggers, so email me, spread the word, ask your friends and favorite bloggers to sign-up too, it’s going to be AWESOME!!!
email me again at: jill@theduchessguide.com
Look forward to all of us doing something amazing here!!!
XoXo
