Listen Up Guys!

Bonjour!

One of the great things about Twitter is the instant access to newsfeeds it provides me with that I would otherwise likely not have stumbled upon. One such unlikely find happened last week when I read an article from Esquire online about Christina Hendricks, one of the great actresses from Mad Men. She talks about fifteen things men should know about women; some of them I couldn’t agree more (no tank tops outside in public!) and others I am not as into (I have no affinity toward the word panties – good or bad, I’m indifferent!) but it was a great read either way.

So that’s this week’s column (with of course a link to the original post!).

Enjoy!

Okay, so it's not a list of things for men. But this is what this Mad Woman is lusting after this week.

I’ve a SMILE on my Face

Bonjour!

It was another full weekend in Los Angeles. Friday night found me crashing out about 9:30pm with Betty for a much needed night of sleep. I know, the glamourous life of a Single Minded Woman in Los Angeles. Really tripping the life fantastic there!  I thought it would be hilarious right before bed to YouTube wolf howls for Betty to see if she reacted. Guess what? She did. Guess that else? Karma is a bitch and gave me a dose of my own medicine when Labrador and I were so terrifyingly awoken at 2am by the hoops and hollars of a pack of coyotes just outside the fence having taken down a kill. Not so funny. I guess I learned my lesson to not mess around with the noises of the things that go bump in the night.

We were up bright and early Saturday morning so I could take Betty our in the manner to which she’s accustomed, then get ready and get on the road for an 8am Social Media & Marketing Tech conference all day. Good times. Does this Duchess know how to party or what?! But it was fun and I ran across several great friends and colleagues there, not to mention learned a thing or two, so the sixth day of an early wake-up call was well worth it. Can I let you in on a little secret? One of my favorite things in the world is when people recognize me or just stop referring to me as Jill all around and yell, “Duchess.” The best part about this is that I’m getting used to and am starting to respond! What an awesome thing to have happening.

Marketing event complete, Betty and I took our usual weekend walk up to the Hollywood sign. Yes, I live within a stone’s throw of Lake Hollywood, the Hollywood sign and Lake Hollywood Estates. It’s one of the things I love most about my neighborhood and I plan on taking the Flip Cam out there soon to get some pictures for you all of how beautiful that walk/urban hike really is!

Then, and this is the part that gets really, really good – Saturday night the Aussie and I went to the Turner Classic Movie Film Festival. What for, I hear you wondering? Oh, nothing less than the all time greatest movie that I am madly in love with – Singin in the Rain!!

Isn't this great? A shower curtain inspired by my favorite Musical Movie - www.rolostore.com

Yes, the original Singin’ in the Rain on the big screen at the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Highlight of the weekend without a doubt!

A photo from inside the historic Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. That's about my point-of-view too from Saturday night's screening of 'Singin in the Rain.'

I will admit there was a bit of mad panic and a very upset Duchess leading up to the film, but luckily my Aussie and I made it in (in fact we were literally the last two tickets TO make it in!) and it was such a great time. He hadn’t seen it before so it was fun to see it with someone new and shockingly he really liked it. I thought it may border on the nonsensical for him; he’s very intelligent and all the films he talks about seem to be quite gritty, serious and intellectual. Singin in the Rain is kind of the happy, go-lucky, dumb blonde of the film world *hmmm, like watcher – like movie?

In fact when we left he said, ‘I feel like I understand you in a whole new way after watching that.’

“Oh dear,” I thought to myself.

‘It was perfect. Very sweet, very fun, dancing, singing, laughter – it was everything a movie should be about.’

I’ll take it.

It was a good weekend.

Gene Kelly is just plain handsome in this film.

Champagne in Crystal and red soles on Peep-toes

Bonjour!

I am officially in love. And love, thy name is StyleShop.com. This thing is a gold mine. I’m totally obsessed with gold, copper and champagne hues right now and I had the most fun putting together a little birthday look wish list. Yes, my birthday is coming up soon and since the girls (and you too Jered!) have arranged a swanky little party for me at Nic’s Martini Lounge in Beverly Hills, I thought it might be fun to put together some of my favorite things in one place. Thanks to shop style I can do that!

First off – I’m 100% obsessed with this Ports 1961 Dress from the Spring 2010 collection. Tell me this is not THE most beautiful dress you’ve ever seen . . .

This picture is thanks to the NY Times Online Style section coverage of the Ports 1961 runway collection for Mercedes Benz fashion week. Totally in love!

I think we should take another look don’t you? Good, I’m glad you agree (because delayed gratification is NEVER worth waiting for ;-) . . .

This image is courtesy of thefashionlist.com - love the construction, draping and that fabric - oh my!

Finally, the best part is the big finale on this dress – and this is why I am absolutely blown away by this breathtakingly stunning dress. It literally makes my heart beat a little faster it’s so gorgeous. .

Not a perfect picture, but the best I could find - many thanks to advicesister.net for the image.

Is that just the most spectacular thing you’ve ever seen? It’s like the perfect blend of very constructed and stiff with beautiful draping – like some expert cross-over between origami and drapery. This is definitely my #1 champagne colored birthday frock of choice.

But since I couldn’t find that one dress on ShopStyle.com – pleased to enjoy here a little collection of other very beautiful pieces that I would happily wear out on any date night here in LA.

I’m currently loving:

1) Champagne (to drink and as a color palate of course!)

2) David Yurman jewelry and Tiffany’s jewelry – that gold cocktail ring with the amethyst purple stone – yummy! It’s like candy. And while the jewelry in this collection below is all Tiffany’s – I’m a huge fan of David Yurman’s jewelry line! They just didn’t have images of the ring I’m in love with on ShopStyle so the Tiffany’s candy it is . . .

3) Herve Leger (where have I been that up until a few weeks ago I didn’t know this designer –  like a rare but great album where you like all the songs, I would wear just about every dress I saw in the collection. They are classic, sexy and still modern. In other words, me!

4) Louboutins – all of the shoes, even the sandals, are courtesy of the modern girl’s best friend – Christian. Merci!

Everything Fab (and in its right place!)

Bonjour!

Since it’s Friday and I finally had a full eight hours of sleep last night AND got to sleep in my own bed for the first night in weeks, I wanted to share a few fabulous little things with you and then it’s off to your weekend!

I was back in LA less than twelve hours when on Tuesday morning, I hopped from the office over to Starbucks with a lovely and beautiful friend of mine, the fun Miss GJ for a morning latte.
We were discussing her new FREE PEOPLE top for an upcoming concert this weekend when we were pounced upon by a television crew one shop short of the Starbucks. Okay, pounced upon is a little over the top, politely asked, ‘Excuse me,’ but hey this is my fun little fantasy retelling, where I’m in demand and amazing vs. a random Los Angeles stranger walking down the block. But I digress. . . So the polite woman asks, “Would you mind shooting a stand-up for EXTRA? We already have the lines written we just need people to ask the questions.” Moi? Really? I’d feign no interest but I’m not that good of an actress.

So I did it.

And I’ve been tivo-ing EXTRA (painful but true) ever since to see if I make the cut. If and when I do – you’ll get the update here.

My brush with fame, fortune and my own television show complete for the morning, my friend and I walked in to get our lattes. As Miss GJ so famously and politely tells the Barista, “I’m going to have a high maintenance order,” (Only Miss GJ could have this be cute and endearing and not obnoxious. Doesn’t hurt she’s gorgeous) she turns around and casually whispers to me, “Is that Jennifer Love Hewett?”

So just as casually I glance to our left and sure enough – there she is sitting having coffee and a chat with an entourage of PR men. At the table next to her is the Paparazzi, cameras on the table, iced mocha frappachinos in hand as they await her departure from private property onto the public domain streets outside to snap a picture.

Only in LA.

But this kind of random occurance becomes much less random the longer I live here, and I have to say, I love LA.

So that was my story (and I’m sticking to it). Now I want to share a picture and a blog that are all kinds of great. I have a collage on my bathroom wall at home with the quotes, “A girl should always be two things; classy and fabulous!” by Coco Chanel. It’s my mantra and my motto – so it’s no surprise that I’m in love with the blog I’m about to share, called ‘Everything Fab.’

Check it out for the weekend and see all the fabulous things in store for you there!
