Meeting Men
My father was a sage when it came to one liner advice. Aside from his classic tag line, “I’m busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking competition” was his always handy and shared, “Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one – and they pretty much all stink.” Yep, that’s my Dad for you.
But I promise you this dating advice is not merely opinion – it’s the collection of not only fifteen plus years of dating and relationships of my own, many years of marriage, many years of subsequent therapy, coaching, advice, research, reading and just about any workshop and seminar you can imagine! This is not an opinion or advice only – it really works! And the fifth dating tip is in keeping with the spirit of the others, which are really all about making the most of yourself and taking others at their word (good and bad – you should believe people when they tell you or show you about who they are!). So it’s no surprise after dating tip four that I share tip five which is – Get a Life!!
Now I can list of all the ways and reasons to get a life (but those were mainly covered in tip four – which you should definitely read) including having fun and making the most of yourself, your development and your time. But here is the added bonus and often overlooked benefit of the fifth dating tip.
The number one complaint I hear from woman is – I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO MEET A GREAT GUY.
Getting a life is a great way to solve this complaint. It also falls totally in line with my dating tips on being lucky in love – luck is when preperation meets opportunity. If you’re “out there” participating in events, activities and social situations you passionately love and are interested in – you’re preparing yourself WAY MORE SUCCESSFULLY for the OPPORTUNITIY to meet a great guy with shared common goals and interests than if you were at home. For example, I hear many women say they’re looking for a spiritual, self-aware partner. I hear you there! So let me ask those women this, Are you attending spiritual groups activities, church, retreat or spirtiaul singles mixers? Just about every religious and spiritual organization I know has a singles branch, from the Mormons to the Synagogues to the New Age Centers – are you attending? If not you may want to think about your complaint. Is it REALLY that there aren’t great spiritual partners our there or are you just not giving yourself a very big opportunity to bump into them? What about co-ed recreational group activities? There are travel groups, sporting groups, hiking groups, meditation groups, dog owner groups – literally any hobby or interest you have – there’s a Group for that.
Why not increase your chance of meeting Mr. Right by getting out into the world of your own interests, hobbies and passions? No risk, no gain. If you aren’t willing to get out there and live a big, bold fun life – odds are good it’s not going to find you. The definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Mix it up. Get out there and for Duchess’s sake – Get A Life!
