Being present is an art form. In the age of instant gratification, of which I am an active participant, it can feel challenging to focus on the present. It’s hard to set the cell phone aside and just spend time with a loved one without the distraction of immediate connectivity. With a fast paced life, it can take a conscious effort to close down my email while talking on the phone, believing that I’m capable of multi-tasking. And while I’m guilty of all of the above, I relish the moments of presence.

Learning to be present. From A Course In Miracles and a photo I took over the weekend fishing in southeast Alaska.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to go out on a boat for an entire Saturday, exploring the wilds of southeast Alaska. It was awesome, in the true, original sense of the word that only Alaska seems capable of inspiring in me anymore.
And without cell service or technology available to distract me, it was a rare day of being present and enjoying the day.
Whenever you get the chance, I highly suggest you seize the opportunity to disconnect and be present.
